SF 7/16 TheFlopBox & FreeGoldWatch present “MEMENTO VIVERE” new work by Grady Gordon

FreeGoldWatch is proud to present: “MEMENTO VIVERE” New work by Grady Gordon.

Inspired by Native American Katchina dolls and Japanese Yokai, MEMENTO

VIVERE, Grady Gordon’s latest body of work, investigates the spirit world, the

invisible, and is an x-ray of mortality. The artist’s current monotype series

involves finding the face in the ether. “I’m interested in the relationship between

the positive and negative space,” says Grady, explaining the process. “The use

of black ink on bright white paper is an exploration and exploitation of the hollow

plane in which these faces exist. I would say the monotype is a record of time, a

way to lose preciousness, and a quick study into subconscious thought.”

Grady Gordon was born and raised in the small art capital of Santa Fe, New

Mexico. He graduated California College of Art in 2008 with a BFA in Illustration.

His work has been shown in galleries in Santa Fe, San Francisco, and Los

Angeles. He currently teaches art full time at San Francisco Day school while

maintaining a private studio practice.
