Several months back, I went to an event for The Anthropologist in Midtown Manhattan. If you’ve been following M.I.S.S. Muses, you know this night brought me several muses. The event was lovely, the artists included were awesome, and the vision is motivating as The Anthropologist describes itself as:
The Anthropologist is an online space for inspiring works and inspiring individuals.
It is a testament to the idea that revealing the passions and pursuits of one person can result in the progress of many.
Our premise is simple: we illuminate those who move us in order to move you. We champion the idea that sharing sources of creativity in turn kindles it.
I rediscovered a muse from the night as I was going through my card basket last week, picking out thank you cards and postcards to send to loved ones (I think handwritten notes are a lost art). I found the envelopes given away as parting gifts from the event. The front has vintage postage stamps adding up to current rates, and the flap reads “send something inspiring to someone who inspires you.”
What a novel thought. How often do we tell those who inspire us that they do? Or when do we share something inspiring back with them?
Finding this, I thought about all the people in my life who inspire me. I thought of how often I tell them. Truthfully, not that often. There are the people I don’t know but touch me daily- musicians, artists, writers, virtual friends, and the people I see in passing that allow me to take from their moments I witness. Then there are the people I have access to in my life, who provide moments to think back on, quotes to replay in my mind, lead by example, and carry on through situations being role models and as encouraging as ever. They are the leaders, the mothers, the children, the innocent, the weighed down, the persevering, the lovers, the fighters, and so many more. It’s time to thank them and share a bit of what they so generously offer into the world and my life.
This week, I’m inspired by paying it forward, and paying it back to those who inspire us. May they continue to do so.
