Happy to Be Nappy

Individuality is the driving force behind the most beautiful and meaningful things in this life. Without someone thinking outside the box or seeing more to the world than black and white, we’d live in a super wack world. True enough, as a society we aren’t the most accepting or open minded, but at least we have the freedom to express ourselves via the medium of our hearts desire. Lately, I’ve given the world the middle finger and began to live by the ‘F It’ attitude. I remember a me that just wanted to be cool. I was a follower. Now I do WTF I feel. Side eyes and whispers are often the results of my vulgar comments or choice of attire. Who cares? If they hate it, I love it.

My latest spontaneous endeavor included a pair of scissors, a trash can, water, and a intense feeling of curiosity. Six months ago I decided to give up the creamy crack known as hair relaxers and embraced my kinky curls. Initially I knid of cheated because I was still flat ironing my hair, but this past Saturday morning I made a major decision. I woke up, located a pair of scissors, and decided to get rid of my relaxed locks once and for all. Thats right. I wet my wig and cut all the relaxed hair out of my head. All thats left now is the natural me.

Today is day 3 for the new me. I don’t know how I feel about my mini fro, but I know its a decision that I’m going to live with. I’m no longer using chemicals of any kind in my hair. Ever again. The funny looks have started already and I love it. There is not greater feeling that reading people’s confused looks as I strut my ass around the streets of Atlanta. Hello world! I have arrived!

Congrats mama! I’ve been debating taking the shears to my relaxed ends ever since this ATL heat has been giving my ends a run for their money.
