What to Do in DC: Commonwealth

Commonwealth DC

Commonwealth DC

It wasn’t all that long ago when DC’s fashion scene was clearly defined by Nike Boots, Foamposites, XXXXXXL Footlocker white tees, stretch pants, and the ubiquitous LVL-X logo shirt.  That all started to change at the beginning of 2007 when two major streetwear spots opened up in the area.  First to the party was Major serving the Wisconsin Ave. corridor in Georgetown.  A few weeks after that Commonwealth opened its doors in Adam’s Morgan, a neighborhood known more for drunken bar fights and jumbo pizza slices than for shopping.  The DC location puts the original Commonwealth in Norfolk, VA to shame: the space is about 3 times bigger and, consequently, the selection of dope goods is much larger.  Not only is there a decent selection of unique women’s shoes, but the store is one of two in the entire DC area to carry possibly the best women’s streetwear brand around, Hellz Bellz.  If that doesn’t make it worth visiting then I don’t know what does.

I think you’re right. It does seem to put the Norfolk, VA store to shame, but pretty much everything in DC is a little bit bigger and better than it is in VA :)
