We’re sitting in the Austin Convention Center on what is the aftermath of Day 2 of SXSW. Although there were some pretty awful public transportation/Twitter moments (think no taxis, buss rides with Austin junkies, and tweets gone mad) during the day, the M.I.S.S. x Revery Media family had our ears–and minds–blown by some of the amazing live performances coming out of SXSW 2010.
The Levis/Fader Fort blew it down with some amazing performances yesterday, including appearances from Neon Indian, Fucked Up, and Mad Decent darling Rye Rye. Apparently (we never end up making it in though!), there was free beer, a sloppy Misca Barton, and dance parties so epic that even your Mom would have no shame joining in. Later in the night, Revery Media hit up the Green Owl Records showcase at Beauty Bar. BK transplants Ninjasonik brought that NY crunk to the South, and buzz band Grandchildren played as well.
At the other Beauty Bar (it took us a while to figure that out, too), the Rolling Stone Showcase was a night filled of amazing indie bands, including the much celebrated Deer Tick. The night, however, started with a robust performance from Dawes that had literally every single hipster in the crowd singing along and high-fiving. Titus Andronicus performed about 9, 9-minute songs that blended into one deliciously good jamfest after a while. And then, much like finally arriving to Mecca, Deer Tick took to the stage. With an upbeat, roots rock-and-roll live performance that was a nice departure from their sleepy folk-rock EP, Deer Tick covered Sam Cooke and Chuck Berry, as well as sang their own material. They even threw in a wink at Guns n Roses, opening and closing the show with riffs from “Sweet Child of Mine”. Our hearing was fried and our feet exhausted from dancing, but Day 2 was overall happiness in a nutshell. And, you can’t beat happiness in a nutshell. Ever.
Stay tuned for Day 3 Recap tomorrow– Green Label Sound showcase report on the way! YAW!
