Spring is finally here! After a wet, cold, windy and snowy winter (depending on where you live), it’s time to shed those heavy coats and sweaters for something softer, brightly patterned and definitely shorter! Cue NYC designer Rachel Roy and her eponymous line, RACHEL Rachel Roy, made up of contemporary sportswear, footwear and accessories to help you shed those winter blues and emerge a spring siren.
In her RRR Spring 2010 lookbook, Roy focuses on love and what it means for her and the models she chose to wear the collection. After just one look at the collection, you’d be hard pressed to find something NOT to fall in love with. Dark trenches and jackets have floral and patterned linings; suede jackets are deconstructed, loose and perforated; skirts, of course, are short and flirty, as well as gathered and fitted; tanks and tees are comfy and provide an interesting focal point when layering or on their own.
Rompers, fitted shorts and cargo pants and jumpsuits also make an appearance in the collection, which adds a rugged tone; however, the fit and fabric of the pieces add just enough feminine character that prevents them from looking too masculine.
And then there are the accessories. Chunky gold pieces that include chains, gremlins, skulls, birdcages, leaves, bees and natural stones are crafted into bangles, chains and earrings. Bold scarves, belts and totes complete the collection and stand out on their own, if they are the only selection you make from the collection.
My favorites in the collection are the Chain Strap Halter Dress, the Fringed Cardi, the Slashed Tank, the Perforated Suede Jacket and any and every shoe in the lookbook. Personal favorites aside, there’s not a look in the collection that you’d go wrong with. Roy has definitely succeeded in her mission of creating pieces that enable women to dress with “effortless elegance and confidence.”
As a special bonus for fans, additional footage from the RRR Spring 2010 photo shoot has been posted online. In it, you can find out what love means to each of the models featured in the lookbook, Julia Frakes, Ashley Bowman, Brandee Brown, Vashtie Kola and Nina Sky (who are both featured in Women Making History). Enjoy!
