Fashion Weak Sneaks 2010: PORTS 1961

As we gear up for the World’s Premiere Fashion Event, also known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week starting this Friday, February 11th 2010. Bloggers and fashion fiends beware of Carpal Tunnel when hitting that refresh button! We at M.I.S.S. were excited to get a sneak peek into PORTS 1961 and are more than excited to deliver some love your way!  Head designer Tia Cibani said “the collection is inspired by the relationship between discovery and invention.”

I believe that there are a lot of designers that we don’t know too much information on, I know that PORTS was one of those until 2006 for me, here is a little brief write up on PORTS and H.B.I.C.:

In 2004, under the Canadian sportswear label Ports International’s umbrella, North African–born, Vancouver-bred designer Tia Cibani launched Ports 1961, a Women’s ready-to-wear line full of classic, structured pieces, with a romantic and sometimes ethnic twist. Since Cibani’s fall 2006 runway debut, the designer has showcased storytelling collections full of chunky knits and soft separates in earthy tones made to layer, often with some sort of exotic touch like burlap fringe or wooden accessories. Her work has won over notable girls from downtown and uptown circles alike, including Arden Wohl and Olivia Palermo, respectively. It also opened the door for the designer to dress the female commentators for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, a fitting opportunity for the worldly designer.

I am anxious to see if she will have any involvement with the 2010 Olympic Games considering she is a Vancouver native.  The Downtown Vancouver store is impeccable by the way.
