“Fivvvve minutesssss in the closetttttt with youuuu”
Remember when the prospect of 5 minutes alone in a closet with the boy you were crushing on was enough to make you leap out of your own skin with excitement? That was genuine, unadulterated excitement. I don’t even know if I am capable of experiencing excitement on that level anymore. Then again, I haven’t had ‘7 Minutes in Heaven’ with an adolescent in a hot minute.
The opening quote is a lyric from The Juliana Hatfield 3’s “Spin the Bottle.” The song was on their album Become What You Are and also appeared on the infamous Reality Blues soundtrack – the soundtrack that reigned during the ‘90s Gen X period. Juliana has a sweet, chilling voice, with a gaze much like one of the twins from The Shining. In other words, she is spookily pretty, with a decidedly tomboyish elegance.
Although, by now Juliana has recorded over 10 albums, I reminisce over her success pre-1996 years. This includes her work with Todd Philips and Dean Fisher during her stint in The Juliana Hatfield 3, as well as some of her solo work. She is the typical 90’s girl, in my opinion.
