M.I.S.S. Muses: Bollywood!

Ah, Bollywood.

Ah, Bollywood.

Yes, this week, my inspiration is Bollywood. For those who really know me, you know I have a soft spot in my heart for turning on the English subtitles and hanging out for 3 hours to watch musical stories of love, devotion, and fantasy colorfully splash before me on the screen. As I searched through my DVD collection this week in hunt of something familiar, with a happy ending, and hopefully romantic, I brushed upon my selection of Bollywood films. Perfect! I chose a story I knew, with love and romance, and got ready to dive into their world for a few hours that night.

I am fully aware the storylines and acting in Bollywood can be absurd and not to everyone’s taste. But I don’t mind it. To me, it’s an escape. The character is that character and not one to contemplate and dissect through the movie and afterwards. Dream sequences truly are dreamy. Songs are whole-heartedly performed. True love exists and even in the face of drama people still feel like dancing.

Guys dancing for the ladies is pretty inspiring.

Guys dancing for the ladies is pretty inspiring.

A Bollywood movie is like the super-sweet, perhaps slightly naïve friend who doesn’t quite click with you on everything, but my goodness, is good to have around. When you need a shoulder to cry on, someone to bake cookies with, an opinion on Valentine’s Day cards, or flowers, she is your girl. And while you may not share dirt, dark secrets, or night caps with said friend, you do share sweet moments and uplifting times with her.

Watching Bollywood movies hasn’t solved my problems or cured cancer, but it does offer me a different point of view and reminder of a life outside my own. Getting lost in these films I feel giddy, loving, and hopeful. Seeing circumstances work out allows me to drift away and picture my own steps to success and visualize the happy ending. And let’s face it: we all love a happy ending.

if only life were always like a Bollywood flick….I’d get up out of bed and dance around right now.

  2. Do the actors sing the tunes? Quite nearly never. The vast large vast majority of motion picture tunes are sung by playback singers, who’re well-liked inside their personal proper. The video and songs business enterprise in India are inextricably interlinked. Practically all Indigenous Native Indian pop songs arrives from movie soundtracks.
