Singer-Rapper M.I.A speaks out against The New York Times
M.I.A leaked a track, “Space Odyssey” earlier this week via her Twitter as an angry response to an article The New York Times Travel section published naming Sri Lanka the number one place to visit on thier list of “31 Places to Go in 2010.” Naturally, the Sri Lankan singer-rapper lashed out at the NYT for printing scenic pictures of her country rather than addressing the pressing issues facing it’s citizens everyday. She has since taken to her Twitter to show the effects that the war between the Tamil and Sinhalese government has taken on the women and children. “Here is the luch coastline they are talking about.” The picture is very graphic, just warning you.
“The song and video were made Monday night for $100, after the New York Times, as she says: ‘fucked up so hard,’ ” M.I.A.’s publicist told The Fader.
“Space Odyssey,” produced by M.I.A. and Rusko, will likely appear on M.I.A.’s soon-to-be-titled third album dropping this summer, June perhaps? Reportedly she collaborated mostly with Baltimore-based producer, Blaqstarr.
