I always want too many things, and this year is no exception. Ideally, for Hanukkah you get 8 gifts, one for each night of the holiday. But my man usually goes hard for the first couple of days, and then lets it dwindle to “It’s still the holiday?” by the end of the 8 days. To counter that trend in gift-giving, I am going to make a list of five things and hope for the best.
1. Ken & Dana B-Side Rights ID Necklace with enamel
M.I.S.S. Gee and I went to Ken & Dana’s showroom a while back, and the designers were more than awesome. They were so polite and excited about their line launch, that it was disarming how friendly they were. They must not be from around here, AKA NYC. Anyway, this necklace from their line b-side, which according to the website “uses four landmark civil rights case ID numbers as it’s voice. We are drawn to numbers that can evoke emotion and carry such significance and meaning. Initially cryptic these four groupings of numbers and letters remind us all to fight injustice.” The necklace that has most meaning for me is version 388 U.S. 1 1967 – Loving v. Virgina – which deals with legalizing interracial marriage. The couple’s last name was actually Loving, dudes! Symbolic! Plus, 20% of each sale will be donated to the Harlem Children’s Zone, and I can get behind that.
2. Betsey Johnson Tin Can Rose skirt
Ever since doing the retrospective about Betsey Johnson’s life, I am obsessed with her signature red roses with yellow background that she draws on her prints and that adorns her store walls. I might even get my nails did with that pattern soon. In the meantime, I will focus on this skirt (on sale!). There are also these floral gems, or these MadeMe floral leggings.
3. THE YEAR AHEAD 2010 Astrological Wall Calendar
by Susan Miller
This woman is a genius. And I would like to stop making mistakes in my life. Susan advises about the days on which to avoid making decisions, such as signing contracts and making big purchases. I’m not doing these things anyway, but maybe she can tell me on which days will be lucky. Then at least I’ll know when to slap some gloss and mascara on – just in case. Check out your free monthly horoscope on www.astrologyzone.com.
4. The Official Michael Jackson Opus
This “baby” arrives Dec. 7 and weighs in at a whopping 38 pounds. The book is $249 bucks, has 404 pages of images, 80% of them which are new, “never seen before” pictures. No further explanation required.
5. Emmy’s Organics Chai Spice Macaroons
There is such a thing as “healthy junk food”, and it can actually taste good! Perfect example: the goodies at Emmy’s Organics. Not only are the treats raw, vegan, and gluten-free, they also might be available in the NYC Whole Foods stores soon (You can order Emmy’s online at their Etsy site, or find out where they are sold near you). My friends Sam and Ian run the company, and they spend a lot of time and love perfecting these treats. Get in mah belly!
