I’m pretty sure that I own more jeans than any other piece of clothing in my closet, so it’s a pretty safe assumption that I’m always on the lookout for another pair to add to my collection. With so many fits and options out there, I’m always very interested to see what designers come up with to stand out in the crowd (no pun intended). Nine Days—the latest creation from Donwan Harrell, of Akademiks and PRPS jeans fame—is a line you can’t help but notice. While the cuts might be familiar, the designs certainly aren’t. According to the website, Nine Days “is for the influencers, the early adopters, the beneficiaries of the flattery which is bred by imitation.” So, of course that means you, M.I.S.S. readers! Harrel’s jeans, skirts and shorts are presented in tie-dyed, over bleached, and graduated colored options that are the perfect marriage of the punk counterculture of the 70s, with the attitude of the 80s thrown in for good measure. Needless to say, this is a denim collection with some depth.
Personally, I can’t wait to take the black jeans with red details home with me. They look like they were designed by a punk Jackson Pollack. I’d also gladly welcome the overbleached black jeans and the tie-died black jean skirt. Yes, I said tie-dyed. But, don’t let that deter you! These aren’t hippy-inspired multi-colored creations…they are exceptional pieces of denim with patterns that look like they came directly from a Rorschach test.
Sadly, the line won’t be out for your holiday wish lists, but definitely keep them in mind for New Year’s splurges and resolution incentives. The jeans will retail around $120 and will be sold at Sak’s, Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s and Nordstom’s in early 2010. Ready? Steady? Go!
