I don’t walk around everyday just inspiring myself consistently. There are times when I’m on a roll, and there are times when inspiration just hits me, but other times, it’s just not there.
Sometimes it takes an injection from the outside to bring inspiration. It may be in sharing with a friend, a pep talk from a family member, or observing something in a passing stranger. But let’s face it: there are times when we need those outside touches the most and they’re unavailable. And of course, dwelling on that unavailability can lead to a lonely, downward spiral of not helping us lift up and get through whatever is at hand.
So, how about prepping now for those times when we may not be able to reach someone, may not be able to step outside our current mindset, and need a little help?
Enter: notes. You should see my house- it’s filled with them. There are notes I make to myself to remind me what’s at the core. There are notes from others that look out for my own good and remind me that I’m not truly alone, even in those moments when I feel that indeed, this time, I am.
I have a note from a friend that she handed to me at work one day. I had gotten into a pattern of running on 3 hours of sleep, was working hard, and it was taking a toll on me. My friend walked over to me, handed over this note, and walked away. One side reads, “Go to —> over” and the flip side says, “BED!” Now it’s on my computer, not just as a reminder to stop working and sleep, but also that someone else cares about my well-being and if they were there with me, they’d want me to take care and be good to myself.
Let’s face it- we sometimes feel alone, sometimes we get wrapped up in webs of our own minds, or sometimes things just aren’t going our way. So keep those moments and mantras you do want to remember close. Even if it’s just something simple, to make you smile and change just a little bit into something positive.
