Women Making History: Gabby Applegate

Yes, we know it’s no longer Halloween, but we here at M.I.S.S have decided to honour a gem who has made witches “in” all year round with laces, backwards crosses and lots of black. Intrigued? Gabby Applegate, at the ripe age of 18, started contributing to the ever-evolving world of fashion with her grunge inspired clothing line “Witches”. Initially a collaboration between herself and her pal Lauren Alexander, Witches is now under Gabby’s sole ownership, and was first created to fill a void in the fashionsphere.

More on the woman designing the clothes:

Designed by Los Angeles native Gabby Applegate. Who at only 19 years of age is already showing her penchant for sophistication well beyond her years. Gabby’s experience in the fashion world is nothing more than raw and instinctual. Her love of fashion has been evident from an even earlier age with Gabby choosing to immerse herself in self-study of designers like Ann Demeulemeester & Gareth Pugh. The collection is comprised of Romantic and mysterious silhouettes. She uses dark and rich colors, contrasted by lighter shades of grey and soft whites to express walking the fine live of Good Versus Evil. Her collection is very much based on Gabby’s psyche of a young Angelino challenged with the decisions of youth. Ayn Rand says, “People create their own questions because they are afraid to look straight. All you have to do is look straight and see the road, and when you see it, don’t sit looking at it- walk. Gabby does just this. She handles herself as a mature adult and designs for a woman with strong conviction & finesse for couture. Be enchanted by Witches by Gabby Applegate and Grow with her.

She might design dark clothing, but she still has a thing for blonde hair!

M.I.S.S.: What woman, besides your mom or grandmother, do you find inspirational?

Honestly, My mom is the greatest woman in the world. I can’t even think of saying someone else.

M.I.S.S.: How did you get your start?

When I was younger I always wanted to either design or model. I’m glad I got into designing.

M.I.S.S.: What’s your favorite piece of (art, music, fashion, client etc) that you’ve created?

I love the cross crotch leggings

M.I.S.S.: Who do you want to (work with, dress, make music with, etc)?

Marilyn Manson

M.I.S.S.:What part of “your process” (customize to what they do and remove quotations) is the most challenging and do you dislike the most?

The most challenging is waiting for the pieces to be made. I want them to be done and perfect now!

M.I.S.S.: Any advice for ladies who are just starting out in a career path similar to yours?

You need an amazing gay guy to help you through everything. My Matt is amazing!
