As a New Yorker, when it comes to droppin some change for a new pair of shoes each season/month/week (but that’s only if I’ve hit some really good overtime at work), the number one thing I look for is a pair that I can conquer the city streets in. This explains the overabundance of flat-soled boots and kicks upon kicks in my shoe collection, but every now and then a wild card pair will find its way in. You know, a pair of random stiletto heeled sandals, or a sexy set of lace-up boots. This past summer though, my wild card was less about the heels and all about the oxfords and spectators. This trend, approved by celebs like Natalie Portman and the Olsen twins, is perhaps the best encapsulation of style meets function, and is versatile enough to work with everything from jeans to dresses. Need I say more?
Sneaker retails Vans apparently agrees with us, because this Spring 2010, they will be releasing their own pair of saddle-shoe and spectator inspired kicks for the masses that are, quite frankly, some hot shit! Sleek a stylish, Van’s “Sophie” style is a saddle-meets-spectator inspired design that will be available in three distinct colorways. In either buttery soft leather (unusual for Vans), or a more standard high-quality canvas, the “Sophie” will roll out in a classic 1950s-era black and white combo, a solid colored navy blue, or a black pair complete with the infamous Vans brand checkered print. Even though winter is just getting underway, the “Sophie” is already making me lust for long spring walks in the park in a cute summer dress and these babies. Ah, only… 8 months away right?
Look out for the “Sophie” to hit stockists this Spring!
