The If I… SS 2010 collection continues to build on street-influenced designs that the brand has been brilliantly crafting since 2005. The result of a chance meeting in art school in Brussels, the If I… label features the work of Sarah Henken, ex-assistant to designer Véronique Leroy, and designer at Lutz, and Rudy Glibert, an illustrator and tattoo artist. According to the website, their respective talents have enabled them to become “architects of fabric, approaching the clothing based on a game of volume and of matter.”
The collection features pieces in scarlets, creams, greys, slate blues and blacks, with splashes of purple. Tops are baggy, but flattering, with wrap-around, deep v-necks and off the shoulder cuts that are made to accent a different place on the wearers body. These are clothes that you can feel comfortable in and look effortless doing so.
Skirts are short and sassy, showing off the curves of a woman’s leg, while complimenting the corresponding top. The pants are every gal’s best friend, as they are baggy enough to feel comfortable in, but cuffed at the bottom to give shape and definition. My favorite pieces in the collection are the scarlet and cream v-neck top, the black and cream off the shoulder top, the ruffled skirt and the slate-blue pants. Any of these would be welcome basics to your spring and summer wardrobe.
