Just in time for some pre-Halloween fun, the Etnies showroom hosted the book release of “Piecebook Reloaded: Rare Graffiti Drawings, 1985-2005.” Luckily the incessant rain that’s plagued the metro area all summer took a day off (finally), as copies of the book were available outside the showroom (literally – right outside the door!) for attendees to purchase before heading down to the party, which was populated with its fair share graffiti legends.
Authors and event curators were in the house, greeting guests and posing for endless numbers of photos (peep ours)! By 8:30 the room was packed, the PBR was flowing freely and tunes from hip-hop greats like A Tribe Called Quest were at full blast. Doc TC5 and Psycho Les (The Beatnuts) were on the turntables for the night, pumping old-school classics to coincide with the meeting of the many creative minds, including Bobbito Garcia – fresh off his Pro Keds Royal launch party (if you missed the event, check out pics from Mel D. Cole over at Village Slum). To capture the moment and celebrate the book release, two blank scrolls were posted on the walls for attendees to create their own art. Attendees undoubtedly took advantage of the open canvas, putting their mark and displaying their artistic skills for other guests to admire and capture on camera.
All in all, a successful night and appropriate homage to graffiti greats. If you missed out on the event, you can scoop up your copy of “Piecebook Reloaded” over at Amazon, on sale now.
