Yesterday evening I went down to the sexy bar/lounge of the Cooper Square Hotel to check out the Spring Preview for Nine West. The large collection hit on just about every major shoe trend for the spring, and will be sure to satisfy customers with their wide range of sophisticated looks that are reasonably priced.
One of the fabrications we see used for the upcoming season are rosegold leathers, mixed with other metallics and materials, to make a bigger statement. There was also a lovely use of neutral and rosy leathers and suedes that stood strongly next to purses and bags made with wavy water-like, almost topographic-style bags, and other shoes with ruffles, and petaling as well as accessories made with ribbon and beads. Some fall flashy caged and gladiator style patents have been updated with suede for the season as well. My favorite styles were two shoes made with suede, with sexy but subtle draped beading across them, that was inspired by a particular vintage bracelet that the creative director loved, and another set using small, crystalized caviar beading which brought new life to the omnipresent studding trend we’ve seen over the past year and a half.
As I headed through the room, back toward the “library” the collection transitioned to a look that was described as having “art as an influence” and a “world traveling feel.” These shoes had more use of brown, and utilized pops of color. in some cases they used opposing shine versus matte and in others a more literal world feel with beading, patchwork, batik, and neutral twines. The sandals are meant to make you feel like you’re at the beach everywhere you go.
A couple of things have been updated – espadrilles have a new life, with jute rope used in a different way than it traditionally is, and I also saw some chainmail-like jewelry made with anondized colored metals, and animal prints being used in conjunction with each other.
For the first time in years, Nordstrom department stores are also buying in and believing in Nine West, and they have a few exclusive shoes (some of which I think are amongst their strongest) that you can see in the below.
The Spring Collection for Nine West starts dropping in their stores, online and to their retail partners in March through May. I will be back this weekend to highlight the Vintage America collection and upcoming sneaker collaborations with New Balance.
