Samantha Pleet Spring 2010

Sure, fall is knocking on our doors, but don’t you just wish we had a last-ditch extension of the sweet summer days of past? Just a few more magical weeks of bike riding, picnicking in the park, balmy summer nighttime drinks with friends and general warm weathered debauchery? Alas, we might have to wait it out through icy winter winds for the next 6 to 7 months for days like that again, but with Samantha Pleet’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection to look forward to, it shouldn’t be too hard.

An irresistible mix of dresses, rompers, playsuits, and harem pants, Samantha Pleet’s Spring 2010 collection is designed to capture the spirit of exploration, whether you’re exploring in the big city, in the far-away countryside, or in your own backyard. The New York City based designer created the pieces from sustainable materials with a color scheme revolving around rich eggplants, popping mustards, solid ivorys and blacks, and enveloping scarlets. Well rounded, the collection features more whimsical items such as the pleated Medallion Romper as well as more practical mix-and-match pieces like the striped tunic length Boat Dress. Definitely designed with the imagery of the fanciful, spirited woman in mind, Pleet’s pieces are contemporary and wearable but have a very strong vintage undercurrent to them. Her Spring collection is the perfect addition to any indie proofed wardrobe, ideal for hopping on your fixed gear and setting off for some summertime adventuring!

To celebrate the release of her line, Samantha and Patrick Pleet collaborated with their filmmaker friends to create a stunning video lookbook inspired by summer roadtrips. Hoping to capture the surreal natural beauty of water, fire, woods and wheat, the Pleets and Photographers/Directors Jacqueline DiMilia and David Black, and Fashion Stylist/Editor Jonathan Dortch all spend their weekends scouting for a location perfect enough to compliment the beauty of the line. The result is a stunning short film, brimming with the personal spirit and energy of Samantha Pleet’s Spring vision.
