Make Your Own Custom Rugby…On An iPhone?

The night before Fashion Week started, M.I.S.S. was invited to go down to one of my favorite stores – Rugby Ralph Lauren, in Greenwich Village, to hear about their newest venture – a free iPhone application that expands on the Make Your Own Rugby concept that currently exists in their stores. This application enables consumers to create their own Rugby, customizable with iconic alphanumeric and varsity Rugby patches on their iPhone and iPod touch. Attendees of the Launch also got the opportunity to use the Make Your Own bar, to create our own customized tops.

Users can place their own faces on the virtual models, and with a flick of their fingers, and shake of their device flip through the different styles and colors of  the shirts and cardigans, create the perfect look to compliment their looks an personalities, and then share their creations with the world, or rate the designs created by other uses, and finally, in the the end, order this customized item. The unique share feature of this application will allow users to post their creations directly to their Facebook walls, e-mail to friends, and within the Rugby.com gallery, and the interactive store windows at the Rugby stores in New York City and San Francisco.

Rugby Ralph Lauren is one of my favorite stores because I love the way they tie the classic preppy Ralph Lauren look with a younger edgier street style. The Ralph Lauren Polo look was very big in hip-hop in the 90’s and I have been wearing their classic high quality products ever since. If Rugby had existed when I first started wearing Ralph Lauren, I most certainly would have been shopping there. I also love the way the Rubgy store is merchandised. They do a really good job presenting the brand as a badder assed younger brother or sister to the Polo and Ralph Lauren collections.

When it came down to creating my own Rugby, I tried on a few styles, and decided on a small maroon men’s cardigan, and used their bee patches to create a buzzy piece of my own. I’m so excited to receive it! I’m going to be checking the mail every day!

There are 11 Rugby Ralph Lauren stores from Boston to San Francisco, with a flagship at 99 University Place, in New York City. If you find yourself  in the area of one I would definitely stop in and check out their style, or just download the iPhone app, and give it a try!
