Looking for a new mp3 player but don’t want to fork any more money over to Apple? You’re in luck, because Sony is dropping a new set of players donning the venerable Walkman name. The updated half inch thick S series Walkmen coming out this month will be available in 8GB and 16GB flavors and include a stunning 2.4-inch QVGA LCD, FM tuning and recording capabilities, and support for a whole slew of audio and video formats including mp3, protected WMA, AAC, H.264, MPEG-4 and WMV. But the standout feature are the speakers integrated into the front of the device. Utilizing “Clear Audio” and “Digital Liniear Phase Speaker System” technologies, all that really means is that people should be able to hear you loud and clear as you jam out on the train unencumbered by pesky things like headphones. Speaking of headphones, you can expect to get a whopping 42 hours of battery life when playing music with the included ones or 6.5 hours when watching videos, but that number drops down to 17 hours and five hours respectively if you do decide to have that public jam session (and you know you will).
You’ll be able to get one of these in black (pictured above), pink, violet, or red for the very recession friendly prices of $110 for the 8GB model and $130 for the 16GB one.
