Reebok Affili'Art Collection at Project 2009

Reebok ventured into artist collaboration footwear back in 2006 when the brand dropped stripped and shearling-ed Omni Pumps by design collective KANAE.  It seems that Reebok has renamed the venture “Affili’Art” to kick off two new pairs in collaboration with  Feride Uslu (founder of USLU Airlines, which specializes in airbrush make-up) and a pair of sneakers with art commissioned from the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat‘s piece “TAR TOWN.”

The USLU collection comes in two Reebok styles, Retro Pop Mid for the BAL sneaker and Courtee Mid for the GLO. The Retro Pop Mid BAL’s or “Retroball” has an upper with an all-over disco ball pattern and shine, white stripe appliques and ankle straps, a touch of red for the lining and eyelets, and the USLU Airlines logo on the tongue. The look is based on the internationality and timelessness of the disco ball.

The Courtee Mid GLO’s feature the USLU Airlines logo all over a white upper, which along with the stripe applique, glows in the dark. The GLO sneakers will be released February 2010 and the BAL sneakers come out the following March.

The Basquiat’s come in the Pump Aerobic Lite Mid, an all white shoe made of smooth and perforated leather. To off-set the white is black text pulled from Basquiat’s piece “Tar Town”  which reads “JIMMY BEST ON HIS BACK TO THE SUCKERPUNCH OF HIS CHILDHOOD FILES.” on the right shoe. The tongues feature the signature “Basquiat crown.”

The future is looking bright for Reebok’s artist collab shoe collections and M.I.S.S. can’t wait to see more.
