M.I.S.S. NYFW: Zac Posen Spring 2010 RTW

Zac Posen presented his line on Monday, September 14th – not at the tents- but at the Altman Building for NYFW this year. What he had to offer was quite suprising, as the line looked almost like a Marc by Marc Jacobs installment. For Spring 2010, The designer focused on simple geometric patterns and designs seemingly influenced by the 60’s and 70’s, with maxi-dresses, mod-like shifts, drop waists, and clear raincoats which hearken back to the Twiggy days. Although they were not poorly designed, the items were not as edgy and modern as we would have expected.

In previous seasons, (Like Spring 2009), Posen had sexier designs, and regardless of it being spring then, he threw in some black pieces to balance out all the overly feminine baby pink colors. In Posen’s Spring collection 2009, Zac seemed to include more tailored pieces and designed suits with an edgier feel. Although the presentation seems a bit less “Zac” than normal, we definitely still have some faves to report: The liquid-like slinky gold dress (which seems a nod to the Britany Spears’ VMA sparkly nude bodysuit), the belted black dress with an adorable plastic lips brooch, Winged aqua pants with side-pocket pleats (WHICH REMINDS ME OF THIS BETSEY JOHNSON OUTFIT FROM 2010), shoulder pads, and asymmetric cut-outs in dresses, specifically on the little pink dress shown in the above pictures.

This year, it seem as if Zac is catering to a younger audience, one which has been affected by the recession. Thus, his designs seem to be brighter and more cheerful – maybe in an attempt to remind us consumers that that we should reward ourselves and buy his clothes! Which may, in turn, bring us even more debt!
