When you sit down at an Isaac Mizrahi show, you expect to be entertained. This year proved to be no exception. The Spring 2010 collection, entitled, “Astaire Case or Obstacle Course” provided plenty of entertainment (a wind machine, rain spray and a golf cart were all part of the performance), while top hats, mini- suitcases, oxfords and red lips perfectly complimented the post-war inspired pieces.
The collection featured a wide variety of separates that featured sequined minis, layered skirts, geometric jackets with silk pants, preppy walking shorts and tulle skirts that appeared to be tied directly to the hips of the model showcasing it, instead of being sewn on. These touches gave the collection the flair that Mizrahi is known for, as well as being the well thought out and executed finishing touches to a designer line.
One of the highlights of the show was a stunning strapless black dress with a giant white rose on the bustline. I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing it (or some version of it) quite a bit this season. A fan favorite among the gathered photographers was a white sequined minidress with fringe. It’s the season’s perfect party dress, so I can’t say that I disagree with their choice.
Mizrahi described the collection as an evolution from his Fall line, and he still believes that “fashion has to be gorgeous and colorful and fun.” With his latest outing, Mizrahi has certainly proved this and kept us thoroughly entertained doing so.
