Although Generra has been around since the eighties, with retail stores in Japan and online stores through sites such as Bluefly and Shopbop, it recently opened it’s its first U.S. store on Washington Street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. We checked out the store opening during New York Fashion Week, and based on it’s location, wedged between Helmut Lang and Mackage and near the Serge Normant for John Frieda salon, it is sure to gain much success.
The store is small, but showcases many wearable, practical pieces for the everyday woman. The line for women is similar to the designs of Theory, and focuses on quality work pieces with a lot of versatility. I was drawn to the dresses and jackets, for unlike many of the higher-end brands, these items have more of a bias-cut and could work on women of many different sizes and ethnicities. The leather jackets were definitely their highlights, especially the drool-worthy grey blazer-style coat with a slim cut. So amazing, and if you cop, your leather won’t look like all the other styles (both made with real leather and the pleather basics by H&M) that every lady will have this Fall. The brand also sells menswear basics that are definite wardrobe staples.
Best point of the evening: When a group of 6-7 12-year-olds try to bat their lashes at the waiter for an (alcoholic) Hornitos drink. If only a Bravo casting director were there to set up a new season for NYC Prep!
