Jenn Porreca Studio Visit

A few Saturdays ago San Francisco-based artist Jenn Porreca, a recent Woman Making History honoree, invited M.I.S.S. into her home for a studio visit. The visit was also in anticipation for her upcoming show, Music Boxes for the Mini-Cinema, at the Billy Shire Fine Arts gallery in Los Angeles, which opens August 8th.

To say that the months leading up to her show have been busy, would be an understatement.

Along with preparing for the show, Jenn is fresh back from a Belfast print residency were she spent time exploring new techniques. Many of these techniques helped inspire the pieces for Music Boxes for the Mini-Cinema.

Another inspiration in Jenn’s life has been her musician husband, Mike. Did I mention that Jenn and Mike just got married?! A week before our visit to be exact! If anyone has even the slightest idea of what goes into preparing for a wedding, you’ll understand the intense year Jenn has had.

Below, Jenn explains her thoughts on this incredible time in her life, which lead her to title her show, Music Boxes for the Mini-Cinema:

Sometimes I find myself wondering how this time came to be. It all moves so fast, much like a movie, and sooner or later its the closing credits.

Jenn feels this is her strongest work to date and with a solid concept and unshakable took kit, we have to agree, this is absolutely her best yet.

So without further ado, we’re excited to present to you images from our studio visit with Jenn.

Jenn's use of color and flowers is inspired by Russian folk art.

Jenn’s work is quite an experience and, as with any art, best viewed in person.
