The mecca of all things evil teen, Heathers, will be making a return to the screen this fall, and not in the form of an ill-fated sequal. Instead, the black comedy classic that tells the story of a high school couple’s playful yet deathly plot to takedown the popular clique, will be returning to a TV near you. Get your DVRs ready?
According to Variety, Fox and Sony TV are plotting a Heathers takedown of primetime that will feature all of the original 1988 film’s evil heroes, including Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) and J.D. (Christian Slater). However, a la the recent CW revivals of the 90210 and Melrose Place franchises, the show will be updated to fit the times— look forward to a Heather Chandler exclaiming “Grow up Heather, bulemia’s so ’07!” in this version.
Casting has yet to begin for this remake, which seems a bit ill-fated from the start. Top tier talent agency UTA represents both of the writers who’ve been anointed with the holy task of reviving this cult classic, so expect to see the agency try to package in some of their A-list teen/tween oriented clients. A Rachel McAdams version of Heather Chandler? Somehow, we’re not that impressed. We have to channel Veronica Chandler on this one and ask, “What’s your damage?!”
