Ritzy P is one busy bee! A Los Angeles based visual artist and designer, Ritzy P (the “P” stands for Periwinkle, her Crayola-inspired pseudonym) has been keeping it super fresh with design delights for the likes of Arcade Fire, Dilated Peoples, The Streets and now, the iconic Nat King Cole. Check out her three pieces that are included in the CD booklet for RE:GENERATIONS, an impressive musical ensemble effort of contemporary recording artists (such as Cee-lo, Brazilian Girls, Nas, and TV on the Radio to name just a few) paying homage and putting their spin on Nat King Cole’s classics.
The pieces feature Ritzy’s signature stencil aesthetic, as well as a monochromatic coloring effect (in shades of blue of course) that put an updated urban spin on the rendering of the jazz legend. Word.
In addition, Bic Plastics enlisted the creative powers of 13 artists, including Ritzy P, for their first artist edition of mini figures. “I only had a couple of days to create two design options for BICS Plastics,” explains Ritzy. “The chosen design was inspired by my experiences of Dia De Los Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as the ongoing struggles of women all over the world, the revolutionary acts we commit on the daily and the incredible strength of my mom, who passed away 14 years ago.” [source: Lucy Beer] The inspiration behind this is definitely cool; Ritzy’s work is often informed by her personal experiences, art reflecting life. The figures will be available in August 2009, with distribution in the US as well as Taiwan. You can get a sneak peek though at the SD Comic Con, on July 22. Well done, Ms. P.
