Gorgeous! Breath-taking! Impeccable! There aren’t enough adjectives to describe the incredible beauty of the Chanel Fall 2009 Haute Couture collection. The clothing is exquisitely tailored and Karl is a master and re-invigorating and breathing new life into the Chanel silhouette. The line featured lots of lace and sequins – everything was bedazzled from jackets and dresses, to sheer cloches and “fingers-only” gloves. The color palette included the signature Chanel black and white but also rich jewel tones of blue, purple, red, brown and gold.
What really makes this collection stand out – always – is the details. Sometimes I find myself looking at the accessories more than the clothes. And how can you blame me? The sheer cloche hats had an array of beaded patterns and they were lovely the way the gently shadowed the models’ faces – very similar to a thin veil. The “fingers-only” gloves are insane. Karl took the mini-glove to the next level and said forget about the hands, just cover the fingers! The jewelry was opulent and even made its way down to the heels.
The hair and makeup on the models was an endearing complement to the extravagance of the clothing. The makeup was simple: pale face, nude lip and heavily-lined eyes with winged black eyeliner. The hair was long and lush with little flowers, also made of hair, strewn throughout the locks. Very young but sophisticated looking. The collection is truly a work of art – see for yourself – view my favorites from the show in the gallery and some of the show footage below.
