M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Beauty Picks of the Week: Good Cheap Handy Work - LA Colors’ Intense Bright Polish Sets are Explosively High Voltage!!!

M.I.S.S. Michelle's Beauty Picks of the Week: LA Colors’ Intense Bright Polish Sets

M.I.S.S. Michelle's Beauty Picks of the Week: LA Colors’ Intense Bright Polish Sets

Up until last week, I was sporting long, pointed, florescent nails that I absolutely ADORED. Unfortunately, one broke, then another, then another, so it was time to bid them farewell, (they were my natural nails), so they are now short and chic instead. I love the look of neon nails, but can’t justify spending more than a few bucks on this trend, so I was super excited to score this week’s RECESSION BUSTER PICK: LA Colors Intense Bright Polish Set in High Voltage, for only $3 at my local flea market. The coverage is great (smooth, even), considering it’s inexpensive nail polish, however there is some slight staining of the nail, but this occurs across the board with darker nail shades regardless of brand. The High Voltage set comes with four polishes in: electric blue, hot pink, lime green, and purple, all of which have a slight shimmer to them. The Explosive set also featured in LA Colors’ Intense line is wonderful as well, and comes with teal, magenta, orange and purple polishes having a flat finish. You can’t beat the pricing on these little babies, ($1.50 each)!!!

Maxin’ & Relaxin’: The New Nike Air Max+ 2009

Maxin' & Relaxin': The New Nike Air Max+ 2009

Maxin' & Relaxin': The New Nike Air Max+ 2009

One of my favorite sneaker collections of all time is the Nike Air Max series. There’s something about that exposed air bubble that makes me feel all fuzzy inside. Air Maxes are some of the most comfortable sneakers I own - they were THE most comfortable, until I tried out the Nike Free. Comfort aside, Air Maxes are the best looking running shoes I’ve ever seen. My personal favorites are 97s, but I also love 1s and 90s. I know the 95 is probably one of the most popular of the bunch, but it’s not one that I’ve ever been a fan of, though I can appreciate why it’s so popular.

Nike just released the latest iteration of the Air Max and I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair. Twenty years ago, when the Air Max made its debut, it was a technological feat, and now, the Air Max series continues to innovate. The Air Max+ 2009 has the infamous air cushion, but it also features two of Nike’s newest innovations: Nike+ and Flywire.

Nike+ allows athletes to measure their progress by monitoring pace, distance, elapsed time and calories burned. Flywire holds the foot in place with ultra-lightweight Nylon fibers. But the best part?  It’s a good lookin’ shoe.  I’ll definitely be adding this one to my collection of Air Maxes.  I may not be counting how many calories I’m burning, but I’ll definitely look good while I’m maxin’ and relaxin’.  You can get the Nike Air Max+ 2009 on Nike.com.

Above hits Europe

Street artist Above has hit the road again, embarking on what’s sure to be another epic tour of painting, stenciling, and general havoc across Europe. Well known for his social and political stencils, witty word play pieces, and the infamous spinning arrow mobiles (hung in cities across the globe), he’s been kind enough to give us a heads up to what he’s been working on.

Above hits Europe

Above hits Copenhagen, Denmark with The Naked Truth.

Above hits Europe

“The Naked Truth” - a mixture of stencil and proverbial wordplay...

First stop was Copenhagen, Denmark, where Above worked on the site-specific installation titled “The Naked Truth” - a mixture of stencil and proverbial wordplay, along with the physical elements of the shower head and curtain. Taking into account how the piece would interact with the surroundings, Above made a point of tucking it away so the “naked truth is only found by those who look”.

Peep the vid to have a closer look:

Next up, a set of three works – “Ears, Tears and Fears” – in Madrid, Spain. Where better to have a piece featuring a flamenco guitarist and dancer?

Above in Europe

The flamenco dancer is dependant on the sounds of the guitar to tease her ears and make her dance.

Above in Europe

The juggler on the unicycle by Above encourages it's audience to rise above their fears.

The three characters all interact and depend on each other for the piece work. A sombre guitarist plays in the hopes his music will make the woman dance, as Above says, “helping ease his tears”. In turn, the flamenco dancer is dependant on the sounds of the guitar to tease her ears and make her dance. “The relationship and co-dependency of both characters in need of the others interaction to find happiness is sensual and vulnerable.” The final piece with the juggler on the unicycle is a bit trickier, so I’ll leave Above to explain: “I have been searching for over 9 months for such a situation! I finally found what I was looking for. This character and piece completes the Ears, Tears, & Fears word-play.” Interpret that as you wish!

EARS, TEARS, & FEARS. from ABOVE on Vimeo.

I definitely recommend checking out Above’s site – the amount of countries he’s left his mark on is insane, not to mention jealousy-inducing!

7 reasons to keep your eyes on the Colette store!

Collete

7 reasons to keep your eyes on the Colette store!

Colette has a bevy of gorgeous goods about to hit the eshop, ready for us to snap up. We have chosen a few of our favourite things for you to keep your eyes on upon their release;

With each shade named after a different airport code, USLU Airlines nail polish is made to apply smoothly, fill the nail surface, hold well and dry quickly. The glittery goodness that is USLU’s LAS (Las Vegas Airport) polish quickly caught our eye. Perfect for a splash of colour in this cold winter us Aussies are enduring here in the southern hemisphere.

Shoes, shoes, who doesn’t love shoes? Originally made for ballerinas, french brand Repetto has continued making shoes to appeal to the masses since their first launch in 1947. Their simple and dainty designs are a perfect option for those who have some spare cash to put down on great quality shoes. Colette is featuring various styles to indulge in - our favourites are the Python Ballerina shoes which come in three different colours.

The Lacoste and Zaha Hadid collaboration is one of a kind - ergonomically designed to adapt to the shape of one’s body and crafted in italian calf leather, this shoe comes in both purple and black. These shoes are also a limited edition run exclusive to Colette, with only 850 pairs made in the world.
Tabitha Simmons is also about to release her new collection in the Colette shop, the line features a balanced mix of opened-toed, wedged, stiletto-ed goodness with each pair crafted in leather and exotic skins.

Comme Des Garçons have created a crocodile/python print baby pink leather bag exclusively for Colette - this gorgeous piece is limited edition and they have only made 30 copies, so if you love it, grab it now!

For the more eco-conscious, beautiful model Liya Kebede has launched her own line of  scarves made of 100% cotton. All scarves are manufactured in Ethiopia, Liya’s native country, so upon purchase of one of the gorgeous LemLem pieces you can take pride in the fact that your money is being used to drive economy and create jobs in a third world country.

Australian company Zip Zip has created a very cute building brick USB key. It’s a piece of lego with a USB stick inside!Rejoice! A practical, funny little 8GB gift.

Ladies, save your pennies and spend well in the Colette store. Just ‘browsing’ the store for this article has loaded my cart with 7 items already..
