Born in Puerto Rico, Erika Peña moved to Manhattan at the age of 18 to study at the Parsons School of Design. She gained practice in the field of fashion by working with designers such as Donna Karan and Josie Natori. Although she launched her own clothing line named “epe”, it was short-lived, and Erika wanted to focus more on an accessory line.

The designer is greatly influenced by both Manhattan and Puerto Rico.

This is where Erika Peña Designs was born. She was greatly influenced by both Manhattan and Puerto Rico, and wanted to develop a line which reflected both places. Peña described her line as “part rough and edgy like New York, and light and airy like the Caribbean.” Her earrings are the best incarnations of this description, as they are long and light, but made of a tough construction, reminiscent of the buildings and skyscrapers of the city.

With her experience in the clothing industry and the accessory line under her belt (including her most recent launch of the men’s line Simon and Simone), Peña says she is now ready to launch a handbag collection and will even try to venture back into the big, bad world of clothing.
