Swedish female vocalist, Lykke Li, released her first major record, Youth Novels in May of 2008, and thanks to standout performances on Carson Daly, in the back of a cab via The Black Cab Sessions , and on the streets around the world, she’s gained much attention via the blogosphere. Much of the interest lies in her voice that coats her honest lyrics with a natural sweetness. Her poignant yet playful style is catching on at a rapid pace with fantastic remix’s and features. Aether’s dance remix and Drake’s R&B versions of ‘Little Bit’ have give an idea of how versatile her sound can be. “Gifted” off of N.A.S.A’s collaborative effort, The Spirit of Apollo, a combination of Kanye West, Santigold, and Lykke Li describes every artist involved in that track.”A moment ends, I’ve got my rhymes/Whatever comes I write it down/ So knock me out and shoot me down/With mics in hand, we’ll stand against the test of time.”
Li’s fearless approach to fashion is also something to take note. She takes the stage in billowy draped jackets with oversized clusters of necklaces, proving to us that she isn’t afraid to take on new shapes or forms. Being raised by artistic parents could also be a contributing factor, her mother was a photographer and father a musician. They raised her in Sweden with time in her childhood spent in Portugal, Nepal, and India – not bad grounds for inspiration.
