Upper Echelon Shoes – NYC Showroom Visit

Upper Echelon Shoes (“UES”) debuted its first collection last Fall and they’ve been breaking new ground in the footwear industry ever since. Founded by childhood friends Seth Campbell and Nicholas Cohen, the boys got together to make “shoellery” – a combination of shoes and jewelry like you’ve never seen!

Seth and Nick watched the rise of the retro sneaker trend and saw some styles selling for well over $500. That inspired to make shoes that were actually worth that much because of the materials and craftsmanship – not just because of hype. They started out with a men’s model that Diddy himself wore and the style sold out immediately. Next, they turned their eyes to the ladies and redeveloped silhouettes for women.

The womens' styles have a rock-&-roll edge to them.

The women’s styles have a rock ‘n roll edge – think pyramid studs, heavy metal chains, and supple leather. The first season debuted in September ’08 in boutiques like Kitson in LA and celebrities including Carmen Electra, Fergie and Miley Cyrus all wear UES when looking for a casual shoe that doesn’t skimp on luxury. And, with special styles coming up made from real cobra, I’m sure we’ll see a lot more leading ladies in UES (the will retail for $695!).

The Nise by Upper Echelon Shoes

My favorite style, the Nise, features chains laced over the shoe laces. The chains are available in 3 options – gold plated, silver plated and gun metal black. The chain, designed by jeweler Gabriel Urist, features an embossed olive branch pattern. The Nise, and all of the styles for that matter, are feminine without falling prey to the usual “feminizing methods” – ie, the shoes are not too low profile, and they don’t come in baby pink and baby blue. Instead, Seth and Nick know that what women look at are the details – and that’s what they give us. The leathers, fabrics, solid silhouettes and embellishments all add up to styles that give women a dressier alternative to the regular sneaker.
