We were immediately drawn to the Modern Lovers booth when we saw bodysuits hanging on the rack – how could we pass them up? Modern Lovers is a new line based out of L.A. and run by founder/designer Ellen N. Ellen started designing t-shirts (she hand illustrates all of the graphics) and she is launching a ready to wear collection for Fall ‘09. Taking a cue from the shrinking international climate, Modern Lovers’ fall theme is “Cities of the Night” a call to arms for global citizens who have similar interests in art and culture to unite “under one moon.” All the pieces are named after metropolitan cities and places around the world, for example, Zurich Blouse, Budapest Bodysuit, Tokyo skirt, Cape of Hope and Vienna Vest. Ellen’s goal in creating the collection was to produce pieces that are instant classics – pieces that you’ll turn to, time and time again. A big theme in her collection was body consciousness – many of the pieces are form fitting and she hopes that women will embrace their feminine curves and find confidence in the female form. After seeing her pieces on the rack and in the look book (which is beautifully styled), she’s without a doubt achieved her goals. All of her pieces are chic and wearable – in many different types of ensembles – a truly global offering. The collection is designed and produced in Los Angeles, and you can even be Modern Lovers’ friend on myspace.
