Earlier this year I set out to find the perfect FLAT grey nail polish. Was it really that hard? Was I really asking for too much? Apparently, at the time, yes. It was that hard and I was asking too much. It only made perfect sense. Nail polish trends in recent years have gone from black to white…With companies like Chanel causing a wait-list frenzy for their version of black polish. Um, I hear White ‘n Wild makes a black polish, ya’ll! Anyways, I digress, that’s old news. Imagine the killing and frenzy Karl would have made had he introduced grey polish, not that he’s hurting but it’s something I would have expected from the house of Chanel. So I said, “FINE!” to the nail supply industry and decided to make my own. And I did. And the people freaked out.
Learn how to make your own and if your not so D.I.Y. inclined, find where you can FINALLY (it’s taken a couple of months for the nail polish industry to catch-up) get your shade of grey after the jump!
It’s quit simple really, you’ll be amazed at how long you suffered without grey nail polish…waiting for someone to make it for you when all along you could have made it yourself. When I did this for the first time at Dashing Diva in NYC, they looked at me like I was CRAZY. Um, they have their own version now. I’m just sayin’.
It’s this easy:
- Buy bottle of white nail polish, I used Revlon’s “White on White”
- Pour a small amount out
- Add a few drops of black polish to the white, I used Chanel’s “Black Satin”
- Shake, Shake, Shake
- Keep adding and shaking until you have your perfect Shade of Grey
And there you have it! It really is that easy. You could even start with black polish and add white if you are looking for a darker shade. And really ladies, you can mix and make any color of polish you want, we do it all the time for our M.I.S.S. Playmate shoots.
Not into the D.I.Y. Well you’re in luck. Since the nail supply industry has finally caught on you can get yours at a few different places. Dashing Diva offers a version, Valley NYC has the China Glaze version (as used in my leopard manicure), OPI did a version with Sephora called “Metro Chic” as well as a taupe-like grey called “You Don’t Know Jacques!”, USLU Airlines offers “Bull Head City” and from the Bernhard Willhem series, “San Bernhardino” and I know there’s got to be many more version out there, so let us ladies know by leaving a comment below!
