NIKE Sportswear at The Montalbán Presents CINEMA TUESDAYS: TIMECRIMES

A couples weeks ago I was able to make it to another Nike Sportswear Cinema Tuesdays to view a special advance screening of the Spanish thriller TIMECRIMES.

The director of the film Nacho Vigalondo was in attendance and introduced the Oscar-nominated short about a man who accidentally travels back in time and finds himself involved in an unpredictable crime. The film was not your typical futuristic time travel movie. TIMECRIMES opens in theaters on December 12th as part of Magnet’s Six Shooter Film Series.

That night there was also a Karaoke Challenge and guests were invited to sign up and join Nacho and special guest Raina Lee (author of Hit Me With Your Best Shot: The Ultimate Guide To Karaoke Domination) sing on stage. Although I was really tempted, I couldn’t do it! Luckily there were plenty of people in the audience willing to sing their hearts out.

Remember to check out Nikesportwear.com or Flux.net Flux.net for information on Cinema Tuesdays. The December schedule is TBD to keep checking either website for updates.Tickets are FREE but you have to RSVP!

Also don’t forget to check get the retail store at The Montalbán for all your holiday shopping needs. Store hours are:
Wednesday & Thursday 11am-9pm
Friday & Saturday 11am-10pm
Sunday 12pm-8pm

Peep more pics of the event after the jump… Continue Reading

We Got The Beat: Fast Food Luvin’…R ‘n B All Ova Meeee!

I don’t get to watch too much T.V. these days. But while visiting my family for the Thanksgiving Holiday I had a bit of time to catch up on some of yee ole boob tube and nearly lost it when I say this commercial. I’m Luvin’ ITZ! Don’t be stingy with your 10 piece grrrrl, break your man off some…McNuggets People, McNuggets!!

So, this is where I admit to the world my genuine LUV for the R ‘n B jams. And so I’m thinking that maybe McDonald’s might have been inspired by Raheem Devaughn‘s jam from earlier this year, “Customer”. Watch it here (as all the codes for this vid are disabled on youtube, wtf? Raheem?) Compare me to an order of super sized fries anyday, hahaha! Just show me the man that can tell me “Let me serve you up…See your the customer, girl you can have it your way” and WATCH. OUT. NOW.

Superfertile: The Hunger Collection

Kali Arulpragasam (aka M.I.A.’s sister), is the designer of Super Fertile, the politically-conscious jewelry line.  Each season, Kali chooses a different world issue from the caste system to terrorism, and addresses them in enlightening ways.  All of her jewelry is unique and each detail is deeply thought out.  Her pieces are the kind that make you stop and stare because they are unlike anything you’ve seen.  Super Fertile‘s newest collection is called “Hunger” and “is designed to raise awareness of the current food crisis.”  Kali crafted beads in precious metals in shape of staple foods such as rice, beans, sweet corn, nuts, black bean, lentil, chick pea, wheat and seeds.  The pieces are crafed in sliver and some are plated in gold “to symbolise how precious these staple foods are to starving countries in the battle against the rising cost of food.”  The pieces range from small subtle charms on chains to giant collar pieces and neck plates that are like armor for the modern day warrior.  I lover her pieces, and some of them are so exquisite as statement pieces, that I would want to wear little else.

True to her cause, Super Fertile is donating 7% of the profits to Oxfam to help in fighting world hunger.  Not only are these pieces amazing, but the concept behind them makes them all the more beautiful.  Kali says, “Everyone has the right to eat.”  We agree.  You can help promote the cause by purchasing her pieces at Kabiri, Selfridges, and Euforia in London.  I hope she starts selling the pieces state-side soon, I love them!

Alvin Ailey 50th Anniversary Season

I grew up taking ballet, tap and jazz classes, but it wasn’t until I was selected for my college dance company that I was exposed to modern dance.  I immediately liked it.  There weren’t any rules or rigid structures that ballet had.  Modern dance is much more free form, is based more on emotion and mood and is a beautiful form of expression.  One of my favorite modern dancers is Alvin Ailey, and his legacy is kept alive with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This year, the AAADT is celebrating its 50th anniversary during this season that runs from December 3rd through January 4th. Tickets are available online here. I’m hoping to see a performance when I’m in NY for the holidays.

Steve Sprouse x Louis Vuitton Revisited

The Steve Sprouse x Louis Vuitton graffiti collection from about six years back is one of my favorites.  I missed out on it then, but did manage to get a hilarious knockoff in Thailand that said “Made In Trance.”  Though quite unique, I still really want the real deal.  It looks like I might just get mine!  I found a sneak peak photo from a visit to the Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 Press Day that shows the Steve Sprouse pieces in full day-glo glory!  The line included clothing, bags and sneakers, Oy vay, I need to start saving up now!!
