While in NY for fashion week, I visited the Victoria’s Secret Suite at the Bryant Park Hotel. When I arrived, I was greeted by a Victoria’s Secret PR representative who walked me through the current Fall ’08 and upcoming Holiday collections. Victoria’s Secret lingerie tends to cater to mainstream mall tastes and can be a bit “frou frou.” No longer! I was happy and excited to find that the new collections were focusing on a sophisticated, romantic sex-appeal – one that is more fashion forward and finds its influences from fashion trends.

The fall collection has three trend stories called, appropriately enough, “obsessions.” Each obsession is essentially the lingerie equivalent of popular trends for Fall ’08. The first is Boyish Charms, and as the name indicates, this series takes inspiration from men’s items such as silk boxers, men’s ties and cardigans. One of my favorite pieces from the collection is the high-waisted sheer panty paired with the matching bra. The look is very 1920’s gangster moll and even has Art Deco-like square bows to match. The second story, Precious Details, emphasizes the importance of the “little things.” Some of the precious details include bows, pleating and lace trim. The third Obsession is Prettiest Pales, a new take on what “neutral” means. Instead of relying on a usual black/white/gray palette, Victoria’s Secret has an array of color neutrals like champagne, silver, pale pink and mauve.
The holiday collection also demonstrates Victoria’s Secret’s “fashion leadership” with more pieces in the sophisticated, romantic sex-appeal vein. Their new collection is complete with a new face – Doutzeh Kroes. Also new for holiday is the rebirth of the ever-popular “miracle bra.” Many of the holiday pieces could be worn as outside the boudoir like a high-waisted long skirt with boning or a long sheer gown with small black bows adorning it. The most indulgent piece for holiday was the cashmere set which included a bra and panty. The cashmere was ever so soft and what I would imagine wearing by the fire while sipping hot cocoa.
Victoria’s Secret also has new products on the beauty front including new fragrances, a home fragrance collection and a new line of makeup. You can look forward to two new fragrances for Victoria’s Secret: Wish, a part of the Dream Angel series and Very Sexy Dare, a scent that is fruity yet sexy. Both fragrances should be in stores this week. Smelling good is not just for you – but your home too! Victoria’s Secret introduces At Home With Victoria’s Secret, a line of candles, fragrance rods, soap and spritzes to keep you home smelling as good as you. Victoria’s Secret is also introducing Heidi Klum makeup collection inspired by the model herself. The packaging features Ms. Klum and her signature.
Last but not least, you can see all of these great products in action at a new Victoria’s Secret flagship that’s opening in November at 58th Street & Lexington Avenue. The store boasts a classic black and white decor and will carry special merchandise made specifically for that location The flagship will also provide special services for customers like gift wrapping, bag check, coat check, shipping and a makeup counter. Victoria’s Secret has definitely a lot in store for you – all at a reasonable price. Many thanks to Victoria’s Secret for giving women the tools to be “very sexy.”
