At Cassette for Spring 2009, “Black is the new black.” We had the privilege of seeing Cassette’s first ever runway show on Sunday night at the Metropolitan Pavillion. The collection featured men’s and women’s pieces that were “inspired by the winter’s first thaw and [Spring’s] symbolic new beginnigs.” I’m not sure if I read that deeply into the pieces. All I know is that I saw a collection full of wearable, unique pieces that would serve as the basis of many outfit options. I love clothes that are simple enough that you can transform into several different looks depending on the accessories you use. These were the kind of pieces you’d find yourself favoring and wearing over and over again. From shirt dresses to jumpers, many of the pieces had menswear details to give them a bit of edge. Some of the jackets had military details but weren’t just military replica’s – the pieces were more streamlined that gave them a chic meets military appeal. I especially liked the cape/hoods – they were some of the most interesting pieces in the show. The men’s pieces had a bit of a rude boy appeal (think black and white checkers and suspenders) and the men’s and women’s collections had pops of white and grey to break up the black. The show ended with a parade of the skinny jeans that Cassette is known for in a rainbow of colors including red, blue, yellow, green and fuchsia. I would have never known that this was Cassette’s first show – everything went very smoothly and the collection looked great. Check out more pictures and a video from the show after the jump . . .
