M.I.S.S Michelle’s Fashion Week Picks – Part I – Tibi Spring 2009

Blade Runner as interpreted by Emily Post is how I describe Tibi’s 2009 Spring Collection which recently showed at New York’s Fashion Week. The Tibi Models strutted down the runway to the Black Kids’, I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance, wearing Amy Smilovic’s latest collection, a mix of exaggerated eighties silhouettes – big shoulders, bouffant sleeves, jutting hip lines, and Asian inspired details – mandarin collars, obi style belts, kimono sleeves, engaged in an array of rich colorful silks. Smilovic thrives in creating wearable trends in eye-catching feminine fabrics, which is so quintessentially Tibi. And yes, Tibi too has Hammer pants for Spring 2009. See below for my picks…

Here are my picks, my favorite looks, from the show:

TIBI SPRING 2009 PICK #1 - I love the look of the Hammer pants balanced with a large bright billowing sleeve, paired with sexy open toed stiletto sandals.

TIBI SPRING 2009 PICK #2 – With its exaggerated hip pleating detail, this white dress topped with a black bolero and a statement necklace is total edgy elegance.

TIBI SPRING 2009 PICK #3 - Worn with a gold flat sandal, this jade gown with its textured bust detail and tasseled obi cummerbund is just sublime, my favorite piece of the collection.

TIBI SPRING 2009 MAKEUP – The makeup at the show was Asian inspired, and included a bit of dark eyeliner for definition, subtle rouge on lips and cheeks, a bit of highlighter to make eyes pop, and a tiny bit of shading at the corner of the eyes for depth. Hair was worn in low chignon with volume at the crown, a simple and easy look for anyone to achieve.

Here is a quick glimpse of the Tibi show’s finale…
