Valentino Couture Fall 2008

This marked the first Valentino Couture show since Valentino retired so people watched eagerly to see what Alessandra Facchinetti, the new designer that took the reigns at Valentino, would come up with. Her collection was ultra-feminine with gorgeous dresses and “ladies who lunch” suits. Facchinetti’s dresses are very soft, sheer and floaty and evoke timeless beauty and romance. Her suits were very architectural with volume in interesting places. Her palette was muted but there was still the trademark red dress - it’s the House of Valention, how could there not be? I think Alessandra Facchinetti did a wonderful job on her first couture collection, and I am excited to see more of her work.

Suzy Menkes, of the International Herald Tribune, talked with Alessandra Facchinetti about her process and the importance of couture. With very few couture lines out right now, it’s wonderful to see a new woman creating her mark in an area dominated by men. Watch the video below:
