This Saturday—July 12th—the world famous WEFUNK radio show (Montreal) will be making their first West Coast appearance (ever in their 12 year run!!!) at the Elbo Room in San Francisco and I am so proud to say that I worked on the above flyer (toot! toot!)…Yep! When I’m not posting about Free Slurpees (yea, who loves you?!) on M.I.S.S. Crew, I, M.I.S.S. Lady Lexx, do my thing as a graphic designer while listening to funk music…and in my humble little world, this is the stuff dreams are made of…
Check the details after the jump and I hope to see you funk-lovin’ ladies there!
DJ STATIC & PROFESSOR GROOVE
of the WORLD FAMOUS WEFUNKRADIO SHOW!!!
The radio show WEFUNK, now in its 12th year on CKUT, has attracted a wide, devoted international audience through the internet. On WEFUNK, Professor Groove and partner DJ Static meld four decades of Black American music, selecting rare and underground tracks alongside influential innovators like James Brown, Kool & The Gang, Eric B & Rakim, and Nas.
Professor Groove began honing his skills mixing funk on Montreal radio station CKUT in 1996. Fast forward through hundreds of radio show sessions, club residencies including Montreal’s long-running Rockdeep Tuesdays, DJ tours through the US and Europe, and a decade of digging ever-deeper into the rich earth of funk music—in 2008 the funk flows stronger than ever through the Prof’s fingers.
DJ Static is the DJ for Nomadic Massive, a multicultural multilingual hip-hop group whose members come from Haiti, Algeria, Iraq, China, Argentina, Chile and France. Their music mixes sounds and influences from around the world with a critical and conscious global outlook. They were invited to perform at the Havana Hip-Hop Festival in Cuba in 2004.
The program has grown over the last 10 years into one of the most popular online radio shows in the world. In addition to being voted top 10 radio shows in Montreal the last 3 years in a row, WEFUNK had the honour of being nominated for best college radio show at this year’s Stylus DJ Awards in Toronto. WEFUNK has also been featured in major publications such as Fortune and Esquire and music-focused magazines such as Straight No Chaser.
