M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Picks & Tip of the Week: On The Tip of My Lips – My Top 3 Lip Stains

The subtle flush of stained lips speaking is intoxicatingly sexy. Light weight and slightly longer lasting than lipstick, lip stain can be used on the lips, cheeks, and basically anywhere you want to create a naturally “flushed? look. Lip stains are a great alternative for those disliking the heavy and sometimes sticky texture of lipsticks and glosses, and after months of seriously deep reds and painstaking florescent brights, stained lips are a much welcome and refreshing sight, which is why they, in particular, are the subject of this week’s tip and picks.

1. Benetint Pocket Pal by Benefit

Considered a cosmetics cult classic, Benetint is Benefit’s wickedly simple and perfectly crafted answer to natural looking, rosy red and of course, kiss-proof lips. Benetint’s actual tint is actually quite fushia, which can no doubt look natural or very premeditated depending on how heavy a hand your hand has in its application (like all lip stains), and was originally created, by request of an exotic dancer, to be a nipple rouge. What makes the Benetint Pocket Pal so awesome though, is its travel friendly packaging and the fact it comes paired with a clear gloss in case you want a little shine.

REVIEW:
Price: $20.00
Value: Moderate
Color Family: Fushia
Water-resistant/Smudge-proof Formula: ***
Accessibility: Good
Where to buy: Macy’s

2. Lip & Cheek Gel Stain in Liquid Kiss by Vincent Longo

With its sophisticated blackberry hue, Vincent Longo’s Lip & Cheek Gel Stain in Liquid Kiss transports me to 1930’s film noir. It’s the kind of dramatically stained lip color I imagine the femme fatale character of the film would have after her lipstick was somehow passionately removed. Needless to say, I LOVE this look, slightly moody and terribly erotic, for sure, it’s the look of bad love.

REVIEW:
Price: $22.50
Value: Moderate
Color Family: Blackberry
Water-resistant/Smudge-proof Formula: ****
Accessibility: Good
Where to buy: Sephora.com

3. Just Bitten in Blood Orange by Revlon

Since the shade is slightly different than most lip stains, Blood Orange is a curiously punchy red/orange color made with fruit extracts, and is also my new favorite, as I discovered it does double duty, and works as a lip plumper as well. It’s a definite must-have for spring, especially since it costs about half of the price of many other lip stains.

REVIEW:
Price: $10.50
Value: Good.
Color Family: Red/Orange
Water-resistant/Smudge-proof Formula: **
Accessibility: Great!
Where to buy: Drugstores

TIP:
For easy day to night make-up on the go: Pair stained lips and cheeks with a bit of shimmer, and a light coat of mascara, on the eyes for smart day look, and for evening glamour, just add black smudgy eyeliner and a couple more coats of mascara and you’re ready to roll.

**DO NOT use lip stain on dry, chapped lips. They will look injured.
*Make sure lips are smooth and well moisturized before applying a lip stain. A dab of lip balm prior and after or gloss after will help the lips retain their moisture.

Enjoy and stay posted for more beauty tips and picks to come next week!

anyother wonderfu;l thing about stains is that if you layer it you get different intensities..
and when it fades, your lips just look flushed..

Nice tip on the revlon…Ima try that out! Um, and also I can attest to the vincent longo liquid kiss being a phenomenal color with great staying power. I was very pleased with the results after drunkenly applying it to my nipples for a festive ladies night out. Lips and Nips were still darkened the next morning, the way I like it!
