Women Making History: Amanda Lopez

Amanda Lopez, 25, was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. She moved to San Francisco in 2000 to study photography at San Francisco State. In 2004, she graduated with a BA in Art with an emphasis in photography. While in SF, Amanda linked up with the female photo collective, Dandelionblack. The lovely lady collective showed together at 111 Minna, SF City Hall, and at the United Trade Show in Las Vegas. In 2006, the crew also published a fashion story in the Synthesis Magazine. Outside of DandelionBlack, Amanda‘s work has been published in the pages of XXL, The Source, XLR8R and Mass Appeal. In 2006, Amanda moved to LA to assist her favorite photographer, the amazing Estevan Oriol. She got to see first hand how celebrity portrait shoots go down and assist on shoots with folks like 50 cent, Kim Kardashian, and Travis Barker. Amanda loved her LA experiences but in 2007 Amanda decided to move back to Northern California to work on her own personal work.

This year Amanda will work with super talented artist Fernando Marti and the bilingual newspaper, El Tecolote to create a project about the gentrification of the Mission District thanks to the Grant awarded to the group by the SF Arts Commission.

In the future, Amanda plans to open up a gallery/retail/studio space with her art partner in crime, Adam Saake.

    I <3 Amanda Lopez!
I’ve admired her work since I saw the flicks she took of E-rupt the Evangelist, Krush L and Kazwell in 2004. She has the ablity to capture an honest moment, and provoke thought through the images that she captures.

We gotta go Shooting together soon.
