M.I.S.S. Michelle’s Beauty Tip of the Week: New Skin for the Old Ceremony – Exploring the World of Dry Skin Brushing.

Years ago, one of my best friends, an esthetician, gave me a wooden brush made with natural hair and short nubby rubber bristles. She told me to use it on my skin before I showered and that I would like it cause it would “help my poor circulation?. I’m not at all discriminatory, especially when it comes to health and beauty alternatives, so I did what she instructed, and lo and behold, I was hooked because it feels really good. Some years later, after further research into natural beauty regimens, I realized what I was actually doing had a name for it. Turns out it is called, dry skin brushing, which has the additional health benefits of removing dead skin cells and stimulating the lymphatic system, thus flushing toxins from the body. It also makes your skin incredibly smooth and soft. And shoot, I’ve had no complaints! Anyhow, this week’s tip is how to do it.

What you need to buy:
A Brush with a Long Handle (to reach your back) and Natural Coarse Bristles
*Nubby Massage Bristles on one side optional and feel great too!
$10 at Drugstores

*IMPORTANT!!! BEFORE YOU BEGIN, See Diagram for Directions of Brush Strokes
**Make sure to brush in only one direction.
***Each area should receive between 7-14 brush strokes.

1. On dry skin, right before you shower…
2. Start with the bottoms of your feet and brush each one from heel to toe.
3. Continue with the tops of your feet up (brushing towards the heart) up to your legs.
4. Proceed to your hands and arms.
5. On the torso, use circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen.
6. Lightly brush the breasts.
7. Brush your entire back, shoulders and neck.
8. Brush upwards on the back and down from the neck and shoulders.
9. Now, hop into the shower and wash it all away!

*Wash your brush every few couple in water and allow it DRY.

Enjoy and stay posted for more beauty tips and picks to come next week!
