Scion has always hosted great events, but this past Saturday I went to their 5th installment of “Exprescion”, events that take place across the country, and it was multi-sensory experience that showcased music, fashion, art and performance - all inside Alcatraz Island Federal Penitentiary. From a fashion show in the Shower Room, to live painting in the Chapel, the event had something for everyone . . . in a very unique environment.
The Chapel housed the art exhibit, “Redemption and Rebirth”, with works by Sam Flores, Greg ‘P-Nut’ Galinsky, Squint, Romanowski, Ferris Plock, Manuel ‘Gonzo’ Gonzalez, Chore Boogie, Paul Hayes, Adam 5100 and Noel Spirandelli. Some of the artists were on hand for live painting including Kelly Tunstall, Romanowski and Ferris Plock. The infirmary housed an avant-garde Circus and Cabaret performance by Vau de Vire. The performance included dancers, acrobats, singers, and a 10 piece orchestra. The performance also included a tour of 7 rooms with actors bringing life to the horrors that may have occurred there. For the music lovers, there was live music in the Dining Hall featuring Flosstradamus and Cool Kids. Last but not least, the fashion show featured three eco-conscious/sustainable clothing brands: Bahar Shapar (NYC), Del Forte (LA) and Oda Style (SF).
The event was invitation only because of capacity issues so I documented everything for you dear readers, from the boat ride, to the cabaret performance - catch all the pics and videos after the jump . . .
Many thanks to Scion!

Infamous Inmates . . .

Here’s a video of the boat ride to Alcatraz - it’s a bit noisy because it was super windy and the camera is shaking because of the gusts of wind! But it should give you a good idea of what it was like.

When we landed at the dock we got a sneak peek of the entertainment to come . . .
