Agent Provocateur, the upscale British lingerie brand, has teamed with knitwear specialist John Smedley Ltd. to create a luxury collection.

The line will feature two groups: French Maid, consisting of a minidress and scoop-neck sweater with coordinating undies of cotton jersey in black with white-frill trim, and Skater Girl, which features a leotard, a short-sleeved top and matching undies of cotton knit in pink, black and fuchsia. The French Maid items will retail for $165 to $325 and Skater Girl will sell from $165 to $265.

Shipments are scheduled to begin next month, with initial distribution in the U.S. aimed at Agent Provocateur stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, as well as the brand’s in-store shop in the innerwear department at the Bloomingdale’s flagship in Manhattan. The knits will also be sold at eight Agent Provocateur boutiques in the U.K.

The knitwear may be distributed at a later date to two John Smedley units and the johnsmedley.com Web site, said an Agent Provocateur spokeswoman. Based in Derbyshire, England, the privately held Smedley company, with annual sales of $25 million, has operated its mill since 1784.

Serena Rees, co-founder of Agent Provocateur, said a key source of inspiration for the line was a “pinup sweater girl.?

“It’s always been a point of reference in the Agent Provocateur vocabulary,? Rees said. “This partnership with John Smedley has given us the opportunity to put some of those fantasies into reality using their authentic techniques.?

The British lingerie brand was created in 1994 by Rees and her husband, London-based owner Joseph Corre.
